Big sheds at the junction, small shops on London Road
The park sits about six miles west of Colchester, right at the interchange, and its agents describe a second phase with consent for units from roughly 4,500 to 40,000 sq ft. In sheds of that size the heat rarely comes from one boiler and radiators. More often it is gas-fired warm air heaters or radiant tubes hung from the roof steel over the warehouse floor, with a small boiler or electric water heaters serving the office and welfare block at the front. When a warm air heater locks out on a cold morning, pickers and drivers notice within the hour; when the office boiler fails, it is the washrooms and the kitchen.
The rest of the parish is a different job. London Road has a post office, convenience store, pharmacy, butcher, baker, hairdresser, cycle shop, takeaways and a petrol station, each with a boiler or water heater in a back room. The village hall, built in 1993 on the fields between the A12 and the A120, St Andrew's church hall, which hosts the Scout group, and the parish hall with its newer basketball hall extension all sit empty for long spells and then need heat for a booking.
About 22 miles from Clare, past Sudbury
From Clare CO10 8NN, Marks Tey is roughly 22 miles by road via Sudbury, around 35 minutes. It is also where the Gainsborough Line from Sudbury meets the Great Eastern Main Line at Marks Tey station, so the route from our side of the Stour Valley is a familiar one.
On the park, tell us the unit number, the company name on the door and whether the engineer should come to the yard or the office entrance. A named contact who can open the gate saves time. For a hall, say who holds the key and when the next group arrives.
Warehouse heating repair Marks Tey — what to have ready
For a warm air heater or radiant tube, read off the make and model from the data plate, note any lockout lamp or fault code, and say whether one heater or the whole bank has stopped. Check the controller on the office wall has not lost its time after a power cut. For the office boiler, give the make, any code, and whether hot water is off as well as heating. Photos of the data plate and the controls by WhatsApp help the engineer bring the right parts.
Gas appliance work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers only (Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998). If anyone smells gas, get people out of the area, do not touch electrical switches and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first.
