Church heating repair Poslingford is mostly about one building: St Mary's near the centre of the village, a Grade II* listed medieval church that is also the parish's only public meeting place, because the parish council meets in its foyer. Call 0800 0996 007 or WhatsApp 07947 578332.

A listed church that doubles as the village meeting room
Poslingford is a parish of under 200 people strung along The Street, the road north from Clare towards Stansfield. The school, post office, shop, blacksmith and the Shepherd and Dog pub have all closed, which leaves St Mary's as the one shared building. It belongs to the Stour Valley Group of churches, so services rotate between parishes and the church can stand unheated for a week or more at a time. Its Norman south doorway, with scalloped capitals and a carved tympanum of stars and rosettes, is noted in the listing, and the church keeps a stone coffin and a bell brought from Chipley Priory, about a mile to the north-west.
Heating a building like this is a balancing act. Long cold spells broken by a few hours of heat for a service or a council meeting bring condensation on stone and timber, and the controls have to be set so the church is warm in time without running all week. Rural churches without mains gas commonly have an oil or LPG boiler feeding radiators, or a warm-air heater, sometimes alongside electric pew heaters. The faults we see are lockouts after weeks of no use, filters and nozzles blocked by sludge from a tank that is rarely topped up, and programmers that have lost their settings. Because the church is listed, changes to flues, pipe routes or the boiler position may need permission under the Church of England faculty system, so we repair like for like and tell you when a change has to go to the church authorities first.
Two miles from our Clare base
Poslingford is about two miles from Clare CO10 8NN, five minutes or so up the road towards Stansfield, one of the closest parishes we cover. The desk still confirms an engineer and an arrival window before dispatch.
Tell us who holds the church key, where the boiler is (vestry, cupboard or an outside boiler house), where the oil tank is and when the next service or meeting takes place. For farm offices, workshops and stores in the parish, give the farm name and the yard entrance off The Street or the lanes towards Chipley.
Church heating repair Poslingford — what to tell us
Give the appliance type and fuel, any lockout light or code, the tank level and the date of the last delivery, and whether the system has been run at all since the spring. If there is a service sticker on the boiler, read out the date. Tell us too who looks after the building for the parochial church council, so our advice reaches the right person.
Oil-fired plant is handled by OFTEC trained engineers. Gas appliance work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers only (Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998). If anyone smells gas, get people out of the area, do not touch electrical switches and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first.
