Oil-fired commercial boilers on rural sites
A commercial oil boiler that has stopped is often not a boiler fault at all. Before you call, and only if it is safe to do so, look at three things:
- The tank. Check the gauge or sight tube. A tank that has just been filled can stir up sludge and water from the bottom and block the filter, so mention any recent delivery.
- The supply. Note whether the isolating valve near the tank is open and whether the fire valve has tripped. Do not take filters apart yourself.
- The lockout light. Press reset once only. If the burner locks out again, leave it. Repeated resets on an oil burner can let unburnt oil collect in the combustion chamber, which is a real fire risk.
