A lockout is a safety shutdown, not a breakdown in itself. Pressing reset once is reasonable if the display or manual allows it. If the boiler locks out again, stop: repeated resets can flood a combustion chamber with unburnt gas or oil, and they wipe fault history that helps the engineer. Write down the code before anything else.
The usual causes we find are a dirty or misaligned ignition electrode, a flame sensor that no longer proves the flame, a blocked condensate trap freezing in the first cold snap, a fan or air pressure switch fault on a flue, low gas pressure, and on oil plant a blocked nozzle or water in the tank.
